The Wellington's Eagle Nest - Carlos Esperança
Walking alone on battlefields
Made me remember the past.
Were people died from hunger and slavery,
And fought until their last.
They gave away their goods and homes,
They gave away their lives.
Working hard in the ground and dying,
Leaving alone children and wives.
I was climbing up the hill,
Somewhere in the West.
Going to that amazing place,
The Wellington’s Eagle Nest.
French troops reached the North,
Craving our space.
Evaded our homeland,
And destroyed our place.
The Queen escaped into the Ocean
Heading to safer lands,
Leaving the nation and giving the empire
To Arthur Wellesley’s hands.
I was climbing up the hill,
Somewhere in the West.
Going to that amazing place,
The Wellington’s Eagle Nest.
The eagle likes to place its nest somewhere above the sky
Seeing the enemy, and staying safe and high
In lands that get evaded sometimes, as time goes by
The enemy was forced to surrender
And didn’t pass the line.
All we needed was strategy,
Hard work, tears, pain and time.
Feeling the breeze at top,
You may hear the scream
That French soldiers yelled
Loosing against Wellington’s scheme.
I was climbing up the hill,
Somewhere in the West.
Going to that amazing place,
The Wellington’s Eagle
